What you need to know before you go!

Whether it’s your first time or you’re a Ball regular, here’s everything you need to know for a great night out at the RSL’s biggest event of the year.

Event Basics

Where is the Ball being held? 

We’re rolling out the red carpet at the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins – Grand Ballroom.

What time does it start and finish?

Doors open at 5:30 PM, with canapés and mingling in the foyer.

The formal program kicks off at 6:15 PM sharp.

We’ll wrap things up at 11:00 PM

Parking and Accommodation

Is there parking at the venue?

Yes – if you're staying overnight at the Sofitel, valet parking is available for $85.

If not, we recommend:

Is accommodation still available?

The Sofitel is fully booked, but don’t worry – there are plenty of other great hotels nearby. Book early to stay close to the action!

Is the venue accessible?

Yes. The Grand Ballroom is fully accessible. If you need any extra assistance, just let us know ahead of time and we’ll happily help out.

Is breakfast available at the Sofitel?

You’re in luck – breakfast is available the next morning for $50 per person. Just check with the hotel directly.

Food and Drinks

What's on the Menu?

You’ll enjoy a three-course dinner, with canapés served on arrival.

What drinks are included?

Beer, wine, and soft drinks are all covered. Plus, new this year: a Spirits Bar, where you can grab a drink for $15 each.

Dress Code and Medals

What should I wear? 

Black tie is the dress of the day.

Time to bring out your best!

Can I wear my medals?

​Absolutely – but make sure you wear miniatures, placed neatly on the left.

Who's speaking

This year’s keynote will be delivered by Dr Mark Schroffel, the newly appointed President of RSL Victoria.

Will there be an auction?

Yes – and it’s a good one. Hosted by EzyBidz, the auction will feature: Military and sporting memorabilia Holiday packages Luxury experiences Bring your competitive spirit!

Who’s the MC?

​The always entertaining Tony Moclair from 3AW will be guiding us through the night.

Photography and Memories

Will photos be taken?

Yes – we’ll have official photographers roaming the room.

After the event, photos will be shared on:

  • RSL Ball social media pages

  • The official RSL Ball website

Feel free to snap a few of your own – just be considerate during speeches and formalities.
